First, BioWare. After more than 30 years the studio is closing and the next Mass Effect has been cancelled in early development. Everybody is going to point at Dragon Age, and I played that one, it was not good. But look at what else landed the same day. EA cut about 400 people, roughly 3 percent of the company, around 50 of them at BioWare. A new Sims game cancelled. skate. downsized. The money stays with sports, Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi, a new Iron Man game and Battlefield. And all of this comes about a month after EA was taken private in a Saudi PIF-led buyout reported around 55 billion dollars. That is not one studio dying from one bad RPG. That is a leveraged owner deciding which bets are worth keeping.

Second, the Xbox number. Reports have the next console at as much as 1,800 dollars, with a handheld ahead of it. The reason has almost nothing to do with Xbox. Micron shut down Crucial, its consumer memory brand, after a 29 year run, and said the data center money is bigger. Nvidia pulled about 91 percent of its revenue from data centers last quarter against roughly 5 percent from gaming. You are not the customer anymore. Building a PC does not get you around it either, because it is the same memory and the same chips.
