Planet Fitness may have just found a brand-new way to test its so-called “Judgement Free Zone.” A video from a Wisconsin location is going viral after a member says an employee told him he could not wear a jacket supporting ICE inside the gym. The man records the confrontation and asks the employee directly, “Supporting ICE—protecting your country is sensitive?” The employee’s answer is a blunt “Yes.” The member then tells the camera he was wearing an ICE jacket inside Planet Fitness and was being told he could not do that.
Predictably, the clip exploded online, with viewers asking why support for ordinary immigration enforcement apparently crossed the line at a gym that markets itself as welcoming and free of judgment.
Planet Fitness does have an official attire policy allowing clubs to reject clothing with hateful, lewd or offensive messages, while reserving discretion over what qualifies as proper attire. What the available clip does not show is any hateful slogan, a written rule identifying pro-ICE clothing as offensive or an instruction from Planet Fitness corporate.
This therefore isn’t proof of a nationwide Planet Fitness policy—but it is a real on-camera exchange in which a staffer calls support for ICE “sensitive” and apparently asks a paying member to remove the jacket. If political clothing is going to be policed inside a “Judgement Free Zone,” members deserve to know where the line is and whether that standard applies equally to everyone.
