House Oversight Chairman James Comer just dropped another explosive claim in the growing controversy surrounding Ilhan Omar’s finances. Appearing on Sunday Night in America, Comer discussed eStCru, the now-closed California winery formerly co-owned by Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett. Comer said investors were apparently sold barrels of wine that were supposed to be aged—but there was allegedly nothing inside them.
His wording matters: Comer attributed the story to press reporting and said “apparently,” meaning this was an allegation raised during a television interview, not a court finding or newly released evidence proving fraud. Fox News aired the original interview, while Breitbart published the relevant transcript.
The claim lands on top of questions already following the business. Omar’s original 2024 disclosure valued her husband’s eStCru stake at between $1 million and $5 million, while Rose Lake Capital was valued between $5 million and $25 million. Comer’s committee requested records after the combined upper valuation jumped from roughly $51,000 to as much as $30 million.
Omar later amended the disclosure, listing no net value for either company and blaming the original figures on an accounting error that counted assets without liabilities. eStCru subsequently ceased operations in April. No court has ruled that Omar committed financial fraud—but Comer’s empty-barrel allegation gives this already bizarre winery story another massive twist. CBS Minnesota · House Oversight
