Nextflix Scales DOWN: What does it mean? | Coalition of Unions | Contracting Economy?

Live stream. Pull up.

Netflix is cutting about 1,000 people, roughly 6% of the company and its biggest round since 2022. Most of it lands on product, tech, legal and HR rather than content. Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters framed it internally as being disciplined about where people and resources go. The timing follows losing the Warner Bros. Discovery bidding war to Paramount Skydance, with YouTube, TikTok and Instagram eating into attention from the other direction.

Meanwhile the Entertainment Union Coalition sat down with LA County over keeping production in the county at all. SAG-AFTRA, WGA West, the California IATSE Council, Teamsters 399, IBEW 40, AFM Local 47 and others, asking for expanded tax credits, faster permitting, fewer fees, and pushing back on the Paramount-Warner merger. Their own report says US production market share has been sliding for 25 years and the business is on the brink.

Put those next to each other and you get the actual conversation. Is this one company trimming, or is the whole thing contracting?

We get into all of it, plus whatever else comes up and whatever y’all bring to the chat.
