Maybe you’ll FINALLY listen to me…
Jac Schaeffer is developing a Stargate series at Amazon and Tom King is still getting work. If you have been waiting for the mainstream to run out of runway, this is what actually happens instead.
Two things landed back to back that make the point I have been making for over a year. A project underperforms, people decide that is a win, and then everyone involved just shows up somewhere else on something bigger. That is not a punishment. That is lateral movement.
These are mega corporations posting net income in the billions over the course of a year. They do not read a disappointing release the way you read it. They zoom out, decide the approach was the problem as much as the personnel, and shuffle the deck. Same names, different projects, and nothing structurally different on the other side of it.
I pulled up an old Supergirl video of mine and the conversation in that comment section is the same conversation happening right now, six or seven years later. That loop is the thing worth looking at, not any single release.
So the fix is not waiting on them. It is two sided.
Creators have to actually build the alternative and speak about their own work with confidence instead of spending their whole presence dissecting what everybody else is doing. I had to learn that one myself. If I am running a company and I want you to care about these characters, it does not make sense for me to spend most of my time talking about somebody else’s.
Customers have to get back to discovery. The mainstream has familiarity, accessibility and capital, and capital is what makes things feel grand at scale. That is real. But the tools to go find something else have never been easier to use.
Young Isom: Before the Fall has passed $50,000 in total sales and we are closing on 1,500 books. Thank you for that.
