A young EMT in Fremont, Nebraska says he was blocked from becoming a paid firefighter because the city requires graduation from an accredited high school, even though he was homeschooled and already completed EMT training. The dispute centers on whether his homeschooling credentials should satisfy the city’s hiring standard rather than his ability to perform the job. The case has prompted questions about whether the requirement unfairly excludes otherwise qualified homeschooled applicants.
