Trump administration blasts Anthony Albanese over the PM’s social media crackdown

The Trump administration has lashed out at Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s social media algorithm overhaul.

Earlier this month, the Albanese government announced a crackdown on harmful content regulated through social media algorithms.

On Tuesday, the Trump administration blasted the crackdown, arguing that the policy would be “extraterritorial censorship of protected speech”.

Albanese was pressed about the “serious concerns” raised by the Trump administration during the United Nations General Assembly.

“I will always stand up for Australia’s national interests, and the digital duty of care is something we’ve foreshadowed for some period of time,” Albanese said.
