Man and police officer wounded following shooting near Ontario synagogue

A police officer and a man are in hospital after an exchange of gunfire near a synagogue in Ontario, Canada.

Authorities are still investigating whether the synagogue was the intended target of the attack.

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney has extended support towards the community, writing on X: “Jewish people must be able to worship safely. To live free, open, proud Jewish lives.

“Canada’s government will do everything in our power to support law enforcement in ensuring that the perpetrator is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
