UN backs African-led resolution to show continent’s true scale on world maps

The United Nations has overwhelmingly backed an African-led resolution to show the continent’s true scale on world maps.

Togo spearheaded the campaign, arguing that the widely used Mercator map distorts the true size of Africa.

The resolution passed 164 votes to one; the United States was the only country to oppose it.
