Labor’s health insurance rebate cuts ‘penalise’ older Australians

News24 host Caleb Bond blasts Labor’s health insurance rebate cuts, warning they “penalise” older Australians.

“Over 65s receive a higher rebate than younger people … and the government tells us that this is unfair, but is it?” Mr Bond said.

“Older people get a more generous subsidy because they’ve presumably had their insurance for a long time … they’re also likely dealing with less income than they’ve previously had.

“Having done the right thing throughout their lives by having private health insurance, they’re now being penalised at the pointy end. I think that’s what’s not fair.”
