Trump visits NASA space centre

US President Donald Trump has spoken to astronauts on a visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston.

It marks the first time a sitting US president has spoken directly to astronauts on the International Space Station from the mission control room.

​The White House has announced a plan for a space academy, claiming it will be on the same level as the US military service academies.

Mr Trump confirmed the move while speaking to ISS commander Jessica Meir.
