The TRUTH about your FAVORITE anime

The Rippaverse Animated Universe crowdfund is live, and it’s a good moment to explain the economics almost nobody understands: most of your favorite anime does not make money as a show. Top-tier episodes now run close to $2 million, the anime industry spends nearly 90% of its income on labor against roughly 50% across Japanese industry generally, and the shows themselves are treated as advertisements. That’s what the production committee system is: Toho, Shueisha, MAPPA, Sumzap and others pool the money for something like Jujutsu Kaisen because each one profits in its own lane, while the studio that made it often doesn’t even own it. Nearly impossible to recoup on the show alone. So if you want to build animation independently without selling off your rights, you have to get creative. That’s what RAU is.
