Can I say something without y’all getting mad?
Former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij called the GTA 6 leaks a nothing burger because 90% of future players don’t spend their time online hunting video snippets. I wouldn’t go as far as nothing burger, but on that specific point he’s right, and it’s the most useful marketing lesson in this entire news cycle. Social media shrank the world and decentralized the market, and it also tricked a lot of us into believing the conversation online is the world. It isn’t. A significant share of the population is connected but not perpetually online, and even the ones who are don’t use platforms the same way, because Reddit isn’t X and X isn’t YouTube. This is why creators chase views and engagement and then can’t understand why it never turns into buyers. It’s why our model at Rippaverse is meet people where they’re at, and why the people who walk up to our table at cons already knowing us mostly aren’t the people in the comments. Organic posting matters. It just isn’t enough, and if it’s all you do, you’re leaving money on the table.
