You’re a crackhead…

The piracy debate needed somebody to say it plainly: if your answer to disliking a company is stealing its product so you can keep consuming it, that’s not principle, that’s addiction. I’m from South Dallas. I know the behavior: justifying the habit instead of kicking it. “If buying isn’t owning, piracy isn’t theft” sounds clever right up until you notice it’s a justification for continuing to consume the thing you claim is bad for you. Games are optional media. Independent studios are making incredible things. The solution to an unethical company was never a roundabout way to keep playing. It’s the one thing the addicted can’t do: don’t engage. Yes, I own a comic company, and no, that’s not why I’m saying this. My actions match my words, and I kicked my own version of this habit on camera years ago.
