Outer Banks S5 Review: A Messy Goodbye That Works
Outer Banks Season 5: Why Kiara Owns The Finale. The Pogues’ final adventure has plenty of treasure hunting, danger, and questionable decisions, but the heart of Season 5 belongs to Kiara Carrera.
After witnessing JJ Maybank’s death, Kiara enters the final season consumed by grief and determined to get revenge on Chandler Groff. Madison Bailey delivers some of her strongest work as Kiara struggles to accept what happened while JJ’s legacy continues to shape the Pogues’ last journey together.
In this review, we break down why Kiara becomes Outer Banks Season 5’s emotional anchor, how JJ’s death changes the group, and why the final episodes ultimately return to the idea that has defined the series from the beginning: the real treasure was always the Pogues themselves.
That doesn’t mean the final season gets everything right. John B and Sarah’s storyline sends the pair into unnecessary danger, several villains lack the complexity of earlier antagonists, and parts of the ten-episode season feel like filler. But when Outer Banks focuses on grief, friendship, and what JJ meant to these characters, its ending lands.
After years of lost gold and impossible adventures, “Pogues for life” has never meant more.
