The Interactive Movie Debate

New Marvel’s Wolverine footage has people arguing about cinematic gameplay again, and I think the debate is missing the actual answer, which is economic. Gaming is the number one entertainment medium on the planet, bigger than film and TV, and that scale changed who plays, who builds, and what gets funded. The influx of casual players, the crossover of talent from film and TV treating games as a storytelling medium, why nine-figure budgets on established IP push toward the most common denominator, why FromSoftware standing its ground is the exception that proves it, and where the actual variety is going to live. This is not a review, and it is not me dogging Wolverine. I haven’t played it. It’s the incentive structure underneath the whole conversation.
