Progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed has been declared the winner of the Michigan primary, as US President Donald Trump claims it suits the Republican Party.

President Trump insisted the progressive candidate, rather than the centrist candidate, winning this Senate primary for the Democratic Party suits Republicans better for the November midterms.

Haley Stevens called Mr El-Sayed to concede defeat in the Michigan primary and offer him her support.
