Labor accused of ‘pulling the rug’ from under older Australians with health rebate cut
News24 host Jaimee Rogers slams the Albanese government for cutting private health insurance rebates for over-65s, warning the move will heap even more pressure on the public health system.
“For years, governments encouraged Australians to take responsibility for their own healthcare. And take out private health insurance,” Ms Rogers said.
“Now, just as those Australians reach the age where that decision matters most… Labor is pulling the rug out from under them. The government has decided to cut the higher private health insurance rebate for those over 65.
“Every older Australian who leaves private health insurance doesn’t stop needing healthcare. They simply turn to the public system. A system already struggling with workforce shortages.”
