It is extremely difficult to be an alternative in entertainment in America, and it’s not for the reason most people think. The hump isn’t a lack of options, it’s how hard it is to get someone to actually consider something detached from legacy. In this one I break down some genuinely alarming numbers across film, games, and comics, why you can’t replicate the big dogs’ model even if you wanted to, and why niche isn’t a negative word but the future. Worth pursuing, but you have to be a realist.
